Day 23: Monday Intentions
I wrote yesterday about my self-care Sunday, and I concluded my blog post with how I prep for the week. My end of weekend preparation is key for me to start the week off on the right foot, yet somehow I did all of my preparation and still felt like I failed on the productivity front this morning.
Here’s why:
Day 22: Self-Care Sundays
The longer I work from home, the more I find myself working late into the evening and on weekends, and in order not to burn out, I find myself needing to set my own boundaries more and more. One of the boundaries that I set when I first started working remotely was taking Sundays off. It’s been exactly 2 years since then, and I still have Sundays as my dedicated day off and my day for self-care.
What does a self-care Sunday entail? [Read more…] about Day 22: Self-Care Sundays
Day 21: Social Media Detox
In the middle of September, I did a 7 day, 6 night trek on the West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island where there is NO cell reception. It meant that I had a 7 day day digital detox.
I’ve made it a goal time and time again to do digital detoxes, and each time I’ve failed because I’ve had a “reason” to go on social media.
I need to post for the podcast. I need to share this blog post. I’ll just check for 3 minutes.
Having an opportunity to do a 7 day digital detox with no opportunity to go on social media, even if I wanted to, was such a blessing, and it taught me the following things: [Read more…] about Day 21: Social Media Detox
Day 11: Why I appreciate a good latte
Ryan and I picked up coffee after lunch today, and his latte was really, really bad. It was so bad, in fact, that he threw it out. It brought to mind something I had been thinking about earlier this summer: how much I appreciate a good latte, and why.
Perhaps you’re wondering to yourself why on earth I’m writing about lattes when there are BIG things happening in the world. Important things. Really meaningful things.
Well, good coffee is important too. Not only does a good latte make my day so much better, but it also signals that the barista takes pride in being good at what he or she does. [Read more…] about Day 11: Why I appreciate a good latte
Day 1: 30 Day Blogging Challenge
I’ve been working as an advisor with Praxis for 1.5 years now, and one of the modules that all the participants complete is a writing module. During this module, the major task they complete is 30 days of blogging.
After 1.5 years of advising participants on this writing module, I figured it was time to do it myself. The last time I wrote every single day for 30 days was when I participated in NaNoWriMo back in 2014 (I completed the 50,000 word novel but never actually published it).
Because I’ve written every day for 30 days before, I know 2 things: first is that I can do it, and second is that it will be hard. Not only is writing every day a time commitment, but it’s an exercise that tests you mentally. It’s on the busiest days and the latest nights when you want so desperately to just go to bed and call it quits that you have to make the conscious choice to go against the challenge you set for yourself. And it’s those times when you know that it is only yourself that you will be letting down if you don’t write. There is almost nothing worse than disappointing yourself.
